A.B. Won Pat International Airport Celebrates 42nd Anniversary

Thursday, January 25, 2018

The A.B. Won Pat International Airport Authority, Guam (GIAA) will launch its 42nd Anniversary as an autonomous agency of Guam with a Proclamation Signing event with Governor Eddie B. Calvo declaring the Week of January 12 through January 20, 2018, as Airport Week 2018.

The Proclamation signing will take place at 10am, January 12, 2018 in the East Ticket Lobby of the Main Terminal. Following the Proclamation, a Legislative Resolution will be presented to Airport Employees, and the GIAA Board of Directors and Management from the Airport's oversight Chairman, Senator Frank B. Aguon.

"Presently, eighteen (18) carriers provides air service, linking nineteen (19) destinations to Guam. In Fiscal Year 2017, the Guam Airport processed over 3.7 Million arriving, departing and transit passengers through our facility, the highest number ever recorded," stated Charles "Chuck" H. Ada, Executive Manager. "In the coming year, we look forward to progress in the third largest construction project of the Guam's International Air Terminal's history, the Third Floor Corridor for International Arrivals. The first phase is slated for completion in April of 2018", he continued. "The project was awarded in December 2016 at a cost of $97M. Once completed, the airport facility will meet the TSA mandate to separate arriving and departing passengers, and the temporary walls located in the concourse can finally be removed. The architectural beauty of the Air Terminal will once again be highlighted with ambient lighting, spacious movement areas, maximization of gate utilization, efficient passenger processing, and increased revenues from vacated concession areas," further stated Chuck Ada.

"We'd like to thank our airlines and tenants and regulatory agencies for their support and hard work in processing all these passengers through our Terminal. We look forward to continued synergy in the coming year to reach greater heights in terms of service and numbers of passengers flying to and from our facility.”

The public is encouraged to participate in Airport Week 2018 events such as the Airport Week 5K Fun Run scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, with Go Time at 6:00am, starting at the Home Depot Parking Lot. A public engagement activity will also be launched within the next week, utilizing the Airport’s social media channels to engage the community. On these channels, the public will be able to enter to win exceptional prizes that include travel vouchers applicable for ticket purchases and airport branded promotional items. A timeline of the Airport’s history throughout its 42 years is also attached for a historical perspective of major milestones in Guam’s only civilian airport.
