$21.4 Million Dollar Terminal Roof Replacement and Renewable Energy System Project Phase I Underway

Thursday, April 30, 2026

The A.B. Won Pat International Airport Authority, Guam (GIAA) is pleased to announce a $22 Million investment into Guam’s only commercial airport kicked off today with the Terminal Roof Replacement and Renewable Energy System Project Phase I Ceremony held earlier today in the Main Terminal’s West Ticket lobby.

Phase I of this capital improvement project will rehabilitate the original roof system constructed in 1994, which has endured extreme weather conditions for over 30 years.  Phase II of the project includes the installation of multi-panel, photovoltaic systems for improved energy efficiency and cost savings, along with a battery energy storage system for continuous operation.

“This project is a good example of the innovation and capability of the GIAA Team, aligned with Governor Leon Guerrero and Lt. Governor Tenorio’s vision for resilience and sustainable operations at the airport.  With the support of the FAA, GIAA Management is able to harden critical Terminal infrastructure, while investing in renewable energy that will benefit the airport for years to come ” stated GIAA Chairman Brian J. Bamba at this morning’s event.

Executive Manager John M. “JQ” Quinata acknowledged the strong partnership GIAA has with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  “We extend our utmost appreciation to the FAA who awarded the GIAA total project funding of $21.4 M from combined grants under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill (BIL) for the modernization of airport and airport improvement program grants.  This is significant not only for GIAA, but for our island community”
