Tropical Storm Bavi (formerly 09W) is tracking toward the Mariana Islands

Thursday, July 2, 2026

As Tropical Storm Bavi is anticipated to develop over the coming days, the A.B. Won Pat International Airport Authority, Guam (GIAA) advises all passengers, the following:

  • sign up for mobile alerts and SMS messaging with their airlines to avoid unnecessary travel to the airport during unsafe weather conditions
  • regularly check inbound and outbound flight status on their respective airline’s website, mobile applications

Executive Manager John “JQ” Quinata provides passengers this advice, “We ask all passengers traveling within the next coming days to check the status of their inbound and outbound flights with their respective airlines.”

Airline operators base their decisions to cancel or delay on the latest safety data and forecasted conditions and are often made within a 24-hour window for short haul flights. Once airlines make these decisions or schedule changes, flight status information appears in several platforms, primarily on the airlines’ websites and mobile applications. The information will correspondingly appear on the Airport’s Flight Information Display system when notified by the airlines, and on the Airport’s website at www.guamairport.com.

Executive Manager Quinata continued, “The Guam International Airport, as a key critical service provider, remains open 24/7, even in severe weather conditions, when there is no flight activity. However, service and amenities may be severely limited or unavailable. Thus, we ask passengers to secure in suitable facilities and accommodtions that provide safe shelter and adequate access to food.”
