Guam Airport Nominated for Two FAA Western Pacific Region 2018 Airport Awards

The A.B. Won Pat International Airport, Guam was nominated and shortlisted in two categories by the FAA Western Pacific Region Office at its 9th Airports Conference held June 11-14 in Torrance, California. The FAA's Western Pacific Region encompasses states of Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, American Samoa, Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Palau. They have oversight on all commercial and privately operated airports and heliports that number in the thousands and serve hundreds of millions of domestic and international travelers annually.

The first category was the 2018 Airport Safety award, in which the Guam International Airport was shortlisted in the top seven. The other contenders were the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport and the Minden Tahoe Airport from Nevada, the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport in Arizona, and the Santa Paula Airport, Monterey Regional Airport, and the Oxnard and Camarillo Airports in California. Las Vegas McCarran International received top honor in this category.

The second category was for the 2018 Outstanding Airport award, with Guam contending as one of the six shortlisted for the top spot that included Phoenix Sky Harbor in Arizona, Reno- Tahoe International Airport and Truckee Tahoe Airport in Nevada, and Santa Barbara and Santa Paula Airports in California. Santa Barbara and Santa Paula took top honors in this category.

This is testament to the professionalism and hard work of the GIAA employees and its stewardship of the facilities and investment made into Guam's only commercial airport and lifeline to our economy. For the past two years, we passed our FAA Annual Certification Inspection with flying colors. No other airport in our region has achieved this. We are anticipating a third year run in this regard as we prepare for our inspection to be conducted this August,” Charles H. Ada II, Executive Manager stated.
