$3.2M Earmarked for Terminal Roof Rehabilitation

Following the award of funding for the A.B. Won Pat International Airport Authority, Guam’s (GIAA’s) Terminal Roofing project in February 2024 from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) Airport Terminal Program (ATP), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has included an additional $3.2 million from the BIL Airport Improvement Grant (AIG) Program for this very important capital project.

“We are very happy to receive these additional funds toward this worthy project,” stated GIAA Executive Manager John M. Quinata. “These funds will be put to good use in rehabilitating our entire terminal roof and allows us to also install solar racking as we look to more efficient and sustainable practices in managing our energy consumption.”

The Biden-Harris Administration announced a total of $148.3 million in BIL AIG Funding that will help fund 73 airport-related projects at 70 airports across the nation as part of their “commitment to modernizing America’s aviation system,” as cited by U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary—Pete Buttigieg. The GIAA will receive $3.2 million.

Deputy Executive Manager Artemio “Ricky” Hernandez, Ph.D. added that, “Part of GIAA’s ability to secure federal funds is the prudent management of our finances, proper planning and execution of projects, and excellent communication with our FAA partners.”

The GIAA recently broke ground on a $41.7 million rehabilitation project for the terminal apron and taxiways and have more capital improvement projects planned to upgrade and enhance the people of Guam’s airport facilities.

Executive Manager Quinata concluded, “We are also fortunate and appreciative to have the high-profile presence of Governor Leon Guerrero and Lt. Governor Tenorio keeping Guam’s agenda at the forefront of U.S. government leaders at every level. They continue to invite top- level federal officials to Guam to see first-hand how Guam deserves increased attention and investment of federal resources.”
