Guam International Airport Wins Another Award! ATRS Commends Guam International Airport as Most efficient Airport

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

The A.B. Won Pat International Airport's reputation in the region for excellence was once again enhanced, being voted the "most efficient airport under 10 million passengers", by the Air Transport Research Society (ATRS), as a result of its 2018 Global Airport Performance Benchmarking Report.

"This is another feather in our cap", stated Chuck Ada, Executive Manager. "This unbiased, research based benchmarking report was prepared by members of a task force from Canada, USA, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Germany and Israel. Clearly, our facility and operational performance is on top globally in productivity and efficiency, unit costs and cost competitiveness, financial result and airport charges; categories that were considered in this benchmarking report. Guam should be extremely proud of its Airport and being acknowledged as one of the best, not only in the region, but on global scale as well."

Last month, the FAA Western Pacific Region office shortlisted the Guam International Airport in the top 7 for the 2018 Airport Safety Award and the top 6 of the 2018 Outstanding Airport Award, competing amongst thousands of airports in the states Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, American Samoa, Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Palau. For two years consecutively, the GIAA received a 100% compliance on 123 fields of inspection of runways and movement areas from the FAA in its Annual Inspection under the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 139 for airport certification under the FAA. Never has this been achieved by any of the Micronesian or even the Honolulu Airports systems.

Chairman of the Board Ricardo S. Duenas received the award for the Guam Airport, at the ATRS conference held in Seoul Korea, and in acceptance, stated" In our commitment and efforts to create an exceptional airport experience for our all airport users and stakeholders, as well as being industry-leading in safety & security, and we pleased to report that the Guam International Airport has made significant progress in both regards. Thanks to all the staff and airport stakeholders for the hard work and efficient performance. This award is a result of them."

Overview of our performance: Guam's Airport facility handles operations that include 60,400 flights annually, with 3.8 MILLION arriving, departing and transit passengers a year. Our mission is critical to the success and continued growth not only to our island, but our region as well. Airport activities infuse a valuable $2.3 billion annually into the island's local economy. We expect to continue to raise the performance bar here at Guam's only civilian airport to better serve the people of our island and all who travel to and through the Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport, Guam!
