$26.5M Integrated Air Cargo Facility Ready for Operations

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

The A. B. Won Pat International Airport Authority, Guam and PacAir Properties LLC are pleased to announce that the new $26.5M A.B. Won Pat Guam Integrated Air Cargo Facility will be opened for operations in September 2009. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for August 20, 2009, at 5:30pm at the new building in Tiyan.

The massive, 163,000 square foot modern facility replaces the Airport’s old cargo facility that was built in 1976. The Guam Airport Integrated Air Cargo Facility is a welcome and timely development for cargo operators who currently face congestive conditions and space and capacity restrictions in the current 33 year old cargo facility.

“Guam can now boast of a state of the art cargo facility with a handling capacity upwards of 3.5M tons of cargo. This adds significantly to our asset portfolio, and is a key development, along with extended runways, to building our air cargo business and positioning Guam Airport for a larger role in aviation for the region,” stated Martin J. Gerber, GIAA Chairman of the Board. Safety and security are integral aspects in the design of the new Integrated Air Cargo Facility, to provide seamless services by TSA and Customs on all inbound and outbound cargo. It will be the primary inspection area for cargo with direct access from the Airport Operations Area.

Joseph Cruz, Managing Partner of PacAir Properties, LLC states, “The completion of our project, coupled with the anticipated boom associated with military, will play an important role in the movement of goods. We are excited to be able to support companies involved with the buildup activity and are anticipating a huge increase in the volume of air cargo that the Airport handles in this new facility”.
The project is in line with the Airport’s plan to expand service into Guam and takes advantage of the liberal cargo authorizations for foreign carriers granted to Guam from the US Department of Transportation.
