Airport Dedicates Aviation Business Park in Honor of David D. Tuncap

The A.B Won Pat International Airport, Guam held a ceremony at the former Guam International Air Terminal, to officially dedicate the David D. Tuncap Aviation Business Park, which will extend from there to the end East Sunset Boulevard before the Maga'haga highway. The business park will serve as a hub of aviation related businesses supporting vital airport and tourism industries of Guam.

David Diaz Tuncap was recognized for his extensive and renowned service to Guam during his lifetime. All those who spoke from Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, and Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio, to Congressman James Moylan and Airport Executive Manager John "JQ" Quinata, spoke of an astute businessman who was a pioneer and visionary son of Guam.

With over four decades of public service and leadership both in the government and the private sector, David Diaz Tuncap began his career in the airline industry with Pan American World Airways, Inc. in 1959. Working his way up from Passenger Services Representative, to Manager of Operations and Ramp Services to Assistant Airport Manager for the airline. In 1975, he was tapped by the Bordallo- Sablan Administration to serve as the Director of the Department of Commerce. He then went on to become the very first Executive Manager of the Guam Airport Authority when it was created. He simultaneously served in the growth and development of the Guam Visitors Bureau where he served for over two decades, serving as Chairman for over 15 years, where h e spearheaded GVB's reorganization into a public non-profit corporation. He even briefly served as an hotelier when he was the general manager of the Pacific Islands Club from 1980 to 1981.

In addition to his government experience, Mr. Tuncap held several senior management positions in the private sector in businesses related to the aviation industry. The most significant position was Resident Manager of Lockheed Air Terminal, Inc. - Aviation Services Division Guam, where he managed the operations and maintenance of all fueling facilities for all commercial carriers at the Guam International Airport from 1985 to 2005, retiring after 25 years of service.

David Tuncap was a true visionary and a key driver in the expansion of Guam's visitor industry, capitalizing on Guam's rapid growth and developing the tourism infrastructure of the 70's and 80's. His influence in Guam's aviation and tourism industry continued throughout the rest of his life until he passed in 2013.
