Airport Implements Energy Conservation Measures

Tuesday, January 10, 2023

In an effort to reduce operating costs, the A.B. Won Pat International Airport Authority, Guam (GIAA) has implemented temporary energy conservation measures at the airport terminal and has also asked all tenants to refresh their energy conservation measures in their leased spaces within the airport terminal building.

“Our efforts have multiple benefits. We want to lower costs by lowering energy consumption and at the same time, kicking off healthy activities at the beginning of the year is a practice we all can benefit from,” shared Executive Manager John “JQ” Quinata.

Electronic conveyance systems such as escalators and moving walkways in certain areas will be shut down and air conditioning temperature will be increased from 68°F to 70°F in the terminal. All employees of the Airport and tenants are encouraged to enhance their practice of responsible energy use in their designated work areas and leased spaces by turning off lights, computer systems, printers, and other energy consuming devices/appliances at the end of the day.

“As power costs have continued to increase, the GIAA is doing all it can to reduce our power consumption,” stated Deputy Executive Manager Artemio “Ricky” Hernandez, PhD. “Although our kilowatt hour usage has remained similar to previous months and periods, the power rates have pushed us to take these temporary measures. We thank everyone for your patience and understanding.”
