Friday, January 15, 2010
Governor Felix P. Camacho proclaimed the week of January 15 through 22, 2010 as Airport Week 2010 at a Proclamation Signing held at the Governor’s Complex in Adelup today.
Governor Camacho acknowledged the Airport as a dynamic partner in tourism and a primary driver of Guam’s economy, infusing over $170M for 109 capital improvement projects, and generating over $1.7 billion and a total of 20,440 jobs, directly and indirectly per year from Airport operations, as stated in the Proclamation. “Over the past 7 years, there has been significant development of Airport facilities. I congratulate and commend the men and women of their valuable service to the people of Guam,” stated Governor Camacho.
2010 marks the 34th anniversary of the Antonio B. Won Pat Guam International Airport Authority as an autonomous government organization which was created by PL 13-57 on January 20, 1976. The Airport’s mission is “to develop and promote competitive international and regional aviation services that ensure the safety and security of the traveling public and support economic growth for the island community”. “We are looking forward to a productive year in 2010 and are on track to develop facilities to build new industry, attract more business and secure our position as the leading airport hub for passengers and cargo in the region,” stated Chairman Martin Gerber.
“Our commitment to the community is a primary focus in our development,” stated Carlos H. Salas, Executive Manager. “Under our Sound Solutions program, we have treated 190 homes surrounding residential units affected by airport noise at an average of $59k per home.” “We’ve also been very active in promoting careers in aviation to our students, having sponsored over 1,500 student field trips to experience day to day operations, go through the check in and inspection process and actually board a plane.” Airport Week 2010 activities include:

- January 15, 2010: Employee Recognition & Tenant Appreciation Banquet
- Jan. 16 – 22, 2010: Friendship Softball Tournament/Various “Get Up And Move” Program Activities
