Honoring Our Heroes

The A.B. Won Pat International Airport Authority, Guam, will honor Micronesia’s Fallen Heroes with the installation of seven individual banners commemorating those sons and daughters who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom. A ceremony will be held on July 19, 2010, at 10am in the East Ticket Lobby.

“We honor those past and present for protecting our freedom. Micronesia has sacrificed 41 lives in the Operation of Enduring Freedom, stated Martin S. Gerber. “Displays of this type are poignant reminders of the atrocities of war, and the hardships endured by people, with Guam celebrating Liberation Day on July 21, 2010,” stated Martin S. Gerber.

The following banners will be unveiled:

NAVY MASTER-AT-ARMS ANAMARIE SAN NICOLAS CAMACHO died in Bahrain. She was assigned to U.S. Naval Support Activity Bahrain.

ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SPECIALIST CWISLYN K. WALTER died in Kuwait City, Kuwait. She was deployed with the 29th Special Troops Battalion, 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Hawaii National Guard. Specialist Walter was born in Chuuk and was raised on Guam.

U.S. ARMY SGT JASPER OBAKRAIRUR, a Fort Drum-based soldier, died in Nerkh, Afghanistan. He was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry of the 10th Mountain Division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team.

U.S. ARMY 1ST SGT JOSE SAN NICOLAS CRISOSTOMO of Spanaway, Washington and formerly of Inarajan, died in Kabul, Afghanistan. A Vietnam veteran, 1st SGT Crisostomo retired in 1993 from the Army and was recalled to active duty in April 2008. He served in the International Security Assistance Force during his deployment in Kabul.

U.S. ARMY SGT YOUVERT LONEY, of Palikir, Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia, died in Abad, Afghanistan. He was deployed to Afghanistan in June 2009 where he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

U.S. ARMY SPECIALIST ERIC M. FINNIGINAM of Yap, Federated States of Micronesia, died at Forward Operating Base Blessing, Afghanistan. Specialist Finniginam was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. He joined the Army in July 2008 and was on his first deployment.

U.S. ARMY SGT JOSHUA AKONI SABLAN LUKEALA, of Yigo, died on in Afghanistan. Sergeant Lukeala was serving in the 101st Airborne Air Assault team. He was 23 years old.

The Fallen Brave of Micronesia is exhibited in the East Ticket Lobby of the A.B. Won Pat International Airport Authority, Guam and is open for viewing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
